You’re settling for IMSA? Is WEC too hard for you?

Much more freedom in the rules in IMSA for a LMP2 engine.

A lot cheaper to run lmp2 in IMSA, especially if you already paid to develop the engine. I would love for them to stay as p1 team, but it’s obvious the company wasn’t going to pay to figure out the hybrid system anymore.

Nissan already supplies the majority of the WEC LMP2 field in terms of engines, with their VK45 V8s. They have the VRX30 V6TT ICE and no car to stick it in so might as well.

Well, the engine wasn’t the problem, it was the fancy-shmancy KERS that the LMP-1 regs forced it to have that killed it.

Yeah, I know. But I’m still frustrated by Nissan’s whole amateur-ish attitude towards their LMP1 program.

And now they prefer to put an engine on a chassis made by someone else and call it a day, instead of planning a new LMP1 assault? This move is neither innovative or honorable.

Until they return to LMP1 and become competitive, I will never be fully excited by their current and future motorsports efforts(unless they choose F1, but that won’t happen, because Renault is already there). I just can’t ignore the how disappointed I was back in December, because of their decision. Although, if they join a lesser FIA competition like WRC or WTCC(with Infiniti maybe), or if they send the new Q60 to race in DTM, I could start forgetting about their desertion.

Other manufacturers didn’t let that kill their ambitions. And Nissan could’ve just asked Renault for their expertise, since Renault works with KERS in F1.

I’m sorry, but you can’t call yourself a leader and innovator in the field of electric cars, if you abandon the world’s most exciting race and the growing series that includes it, just because you can’t figure out electrical systems.

Look how Porsche is using the experience it gained from LMP1 to develop the Mission E. And better four cylinder engines and better turbos.
